Got a question?
Too often, there are claims in the industry that a vinyl floor covering has a PUR coating when in actual fact, it is far from.
A vinyl floor covering with PUR has a PUR (polyurethane) coating which is cross-linked and UV-cured. The PUR coating protects the floor covering by resisting soiling and scuffing. This protection ensures that the intensity of the maintenance and overall cleaning costs are significantly reduced, with savings of up to 48% when compared with untreated vinyl flooring over a 20-year period. PUR coated floors are usually recommended for heavy traffic flow areas.
dramatically improved durability and maintenance of appearance,
drastically reduced water and chemical use in the maintenance regime,
polish free maintenance for life,
To quickly and accurately check whether the product you are planning to use genuinely has a PUR coating, use our critical check and red flag boxes below.
Check the manufacturer’s product specification and maintenance regime to determine the following:
The floor covering has a PUR coating which is ‘high quality, cross-linked polyurethane reinforcement, UV cured to provide a low cost, polish-free maintenance regime for the lifetime of the flooring’. This floor requires no stripping or sealing throughout its lifetime. | If the flooring product’s maintenance sheet states that ‘acrylic emulsion and regular polishing is recommended to maintain appearance and prevent staining’ then the floor is NOT PUR coated. |
If the flooring product needs to be stripped and sealed after installation, or at any point during its guaranteed lifetime, then it is NOT a PUR coated floor. |
